Ragnarok Online 1 in 3D & mobile

Post by Silk » August 1st, 2015, 1:44 pm

It's for China, but it looks really impressive. Looks like they'll get to choose between new school Tree of Savior and old school Ragnarok Online. They showed off everything that I personally used to love about MMOs.

Most MMOs show off big worlds and quests, giant bosses, cool armors, etc... They made sure to show overleveled characters chilling out killing rats and people sitting infront of towns, I guess people were just as excited about those features in China as we were in America.

China's not known for high quality remakes and ports of beloved titles... But I won't lower my expectations for one company based on what others have done, I have hope for this and hope we can see it streamed or translated.

They're using the new school art style with old character designs and it leads to something simple and colorful that looks great though it's very remniscient of Emil Chronicle Online.

It's a chinese game and mobile on top of that, I highly doubt it's well-designed. Probably trying to milk money with the name. I would be REALLY surprised if it was any different. I mean even if we say it doesn't matter it's a chinese game, it's still a mobile title and there are very few mobile titles not trying to make a quick buck.

That's nice and all, but to be honest 99.9% of mobile games are crap. A mobile game ca NEVER reach a desktop game. At least if we are talking about MMOs

If this was footage of a desktop game I'd be into it tho :heh:

I highly doubt this is a mobile game...although phones are getting better and better every day, maybe china has phones that can handle this kind of thing? My phone has more power then my original laptop i used to play ragnarok online with back in the day...

Either way this looks awsome, i would absolutely play this, expecially if it was just an updated version of true ragnarok online.

It's most definitely a mobile game, I know that people (especially us hardcore gamers) have been jaded about mobile games for a long time now, but cell phones are are no longer a struggle to make games on with strange coding obstacles and low potential for reach and quality... Infact sometimes it's more accurate to say thats true for consoles.

Cellphones are a high powered device with touch screens which means there's lots of potential for comfy controls that *everyone has.*

So I didn't like it at first, but I learned to deal with the fact that cellphones are gonna be a competitor for peoples gaming attention, and should be considered in even high budget-ish projects.

Ofcourse, I wouldn't put Ragnarok Online on a Cellphone, atleast, not without a couple of cellphone specific features! The game should let you be online when it's not open, it should send notifications when you get a PM or someone buys something from your store, and chat, speaking of, should be easy as possible.

Day dreams though, who knows what they have planned, we'll see.

Our unacceptance of phones as a "true" gaming platform makes me stop and think. This gaming generation is getting old, I reckon. We be gettin flabbergasted by these youngin's

Back in the day we had to HUNT our own mice! The prospect of even touching a screen was HERESY, and now young'uns these days fondle and grope their screens for instantaneous gratification. e-ehem *mini-rant over* :heh:

Whoah someone mentions Emil Chronicle?! thought i'd never hear about it again, I beleive the english version closed long ago though if I recall correctly. It had this interesting possession system which could lead to interesting parties and social interactions. :P

Note: Danm, I sure derail from the main topic often xd

With ever more powerful smartphones, devs are looking more on mobile. Actually can easily run Unreal Engine 3 and 4 on a good smartphone. Most MMORPG are opening to mobile, not even with the classic MMO style you have for pc maybe. Title like AION:Legion, Dragon Nest: Labyrinth and the recently announced TERA: Dark Squall, is what I want see for the future of mobile games.
Watching at the video I think RO mobile will have the same magic feel as the original RO. We just have to wait and see. And while wait I play Kritika on my tablet. :heh:

I wonder how well the RO controls would translate to touchscreen, though. I can't think of a way for you to move while using skills that wouldn't be clunky in mobiles.
