Schwarze Reiter / Dagger Archers

Post by Reiter » December 4th, 2014, 7:46 am

Hey everyone.

If you can't tell by my name, Schwarze Reiter is the class I'm the most interested in aesthetically and because it looks like it'll be one of the first non-bow based archer classes.

Has there been any info that I've missed about this class? I didn't even know it existed prior to checking the class section here, and I don't even remember seeing the screen-shot used before.

Also, any thoughts as to why we haven't seen much in the way of dagger archers yet?

Despite them lifting many class-based weapon restrictions (e.g. monks can dual wield sword + dagger), judging from most of the info they've given us, each base class (swordsman, archer, wizard, cleric) has a preferred weapon (sword, bow, staff, mace).

Even in the case of Schwarze Reiter, which we only discovered due to two images from the same poster, the only weapon it was shown using was a bow. Any other weapon would be a speculation based on its name. Speaking of which, the whole point why Reiters used firearms was because melee weapons were becoming outdated.

In-game, Reiters might have basic sword skills at most, and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have any at all. Rather, I'm expecting the emphasis to be on mounted combat.

Hm..Hackapel is closest we got for range+melee with additional mount. Otherwise, I'm pretty outdated on a lot of things. haha

Will be interesting how they'll make similar concept class as an individual. Description wise of Reiter they seem highly reliant on ranged more than melee. You could try achieving that little melee feel by taking up Hackapel's skills too. That would sacrifice a bow for a crossbow+dagger though. All in choices in the end. :)

A Schwarzer Reiter = Black Knight .. so im not sure why they would have a bow as a main weapon ... i would think a lance or a sword would be the way to go. But of course a Knight should be able to use any weapon with enough training =P

Bit off the mark their. haha

It means Black Rider, Reiter itself means horserider. Historical wise they're a cavalry that believed melee was outdated and relied on pistols more than anything else.

It's also in the archer branch. :ok:

I was assuming they'd be dagger based solely because their lore included blades and guns, but no bows from what I've read. Hopefully they'll at least be specialized for firearms.

I'd be very disappointed if the gigantic class list was hindered by limited weapon choice. I totally understand not allowing a ranger to use a claymore or something, but Schwarze Reiter's should at least get firearms, amirite?

I guess you all did answer my question though, none of us really know what the fate of dagger classes or Reiter's are right now :/.

I hope we get some more info soon, I'm dying to see what class developments they have planned.

With any luck they'll be a bit of a hybrid class, however, it looks like IMC is leading away from multipurpose class design.

Showing Schwarze Reiter with a bow is like implicitly saying that there are no equip-able guns for any class, though there's a possibility that they'll incorporate gun animations into their skills.

Compare:
Monk - which was shown using fist skills despite wielding a mace, and it was outright stated that there are no fist weapons.
Pied Piper - which was shown using a flute, but reverted to an unequipped bow as soon as the skill ended.

About dagger classes (not just dagger archers as per original post), it's been said that the specialists (one of which is Corsair) reside in the family of swordsman classes. If you ask me, I'd interpret that as having no specialists in the other basic classes.
